First Aid Training with Shelterbox
It has been a busy week, I was fortunate to be able to work with ShelterBox providing outdoor first aid training.
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that provides temporary shelter and lifesaving supplies to displaced families. I will be visiting their headquarters in Cornwall next month to deliver additional training.
I also attended a training day with the fire and ambulance service honing RTC skills and understanding more about our emergency service family. Great day, I would like to say thank you to SCAS for organising and Berkshire fire and rescue for hosting.
My week did not stop there, I have also delivered an outdoor first aid course to outdoor education students at BCA, staff from MKDons and DoubleTree Hilton in Milton Keynes and a Paediatric first aid course to staff and parents from St Peters RC School in Surrey.
We also covered the Bradenham Bolt 10k cross country run and two music events
for Amersham Music Festival and Amersham Concert Club.

We have had a varied few weeks
We have had a varied few weeks, from teaching manual handling to Defaqto, activity and equine first aid to the Berkshire College of Agriculture, frontline work, paediatric first aid for Salvus at Heathside School on London and covering an Mixed Martial Art (MMA) competition for Fightmedics in London, variety is the spice of life.
At the MMA competition a staff member I had taught last year approached me and told me that a few weeks after his training he witnessed a sudden cardiac arrest. He used his training until the emergency services arrived and took over. He received a call a week later from the gentleman concerned thanking him for saving his life.
Exciting news, we are now registered with Qualsafe and will soon be offering First Response Emergency Care courses, more news to follow.

A Successful Hearing Dog Camp and Training Day
Last weeks Hearing Dog Camp went very well, we were lucky with the weather and our campers were fabulous. Totally immersing themselves into the two day, having a great time with our dogs and hopefully taking away some new skills.
This week we have been working with BCA completing an Activity First Aid course for their sport tutors, later in the week we will be working with their Equine department to provide Equine specific training.

Emergency First Aid at Work + F
Today we had a team of professionals wishing to qualify in EFAW+F to ensure safety for themselves and their teams.
Chainsaw use is not for the faint hearted, it takes skill, training and ongoing respect to safely use one.
Today our participants either were members of the Arboricultural Association or seeking approval, having a valid industry specific is a requirement to tick a box. More importantly the simple skills taught today could easily save a life.

Summer Camp at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
We still have spaces on our 2017 summer camp with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Spend two days learning how to teach a dog obedience and agility. Hearing Dog staff will help you understand dog welfare and the importance of grooming and caring for your dog.
During your two days you will learn about canine first aid and receive a Canine First Aid Certificate.
This is a fantastic opportunity to see behind the scenes of a leading charity using dogs to improve peoples lives. Ideal for 12-16 year old with an interest in dogs and considering a career or if you would just like to understand your own dog a little better.

Emergency First Aid at Work Plus Forestry
We ran our first EFAW+F course in partnership with BCA and the Centre of Landbased Enterprise and Technology yesterday.
The course was popular and great weather with a fantastic combination of candidates led to a great day.
The candidates ranged from business owners to individuals who used chainsaws regularly and wished peace of mind if it all went wrong.
We still have spaces on our next course on the 14th August.
Horses, Hounds and Heroes
We are very proud to have been invited back for the third year to provide medical cover for The Horse Trust. It is always a fantastic event to see these equine public servants so well looked after in retirement.
There were displays form the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery, Metropolitan Police Mounted Division and Thames Valley Police.
It was an emotional day as several military and police horses were handed over from their MOD and Home Office riders to grooms at The Horse Trust, to start their well deserved retirement. Some horses had served 22 years and were looking forward to spending some time in the beautiful fields of the Rest Home for Horses near Speen.
Seconds Out
On Saturday we were providing medical cover for a white collar boxing competition in High Wycombe for Fightmedics UK.
We witnessed some great amateur boxing with some very worthy winners. As our services were not required which made the night more worth while.
